Multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal.
A graduate in graphic design from UQAM in Montreal, with a study session in illustration in Strasbourg (HEAR), she finds her inspiration in the act of drawing, animating her vision with spontaneous gestures.
Collaborating with Montreal and Canadian artists has been at the heart of our values for years. This partnership represents much more than a simple intersection of two worlds; it's also an enriching and ongoing exchange. Whether it's the shapes, colors, or tools used, every detail is carefully considered so that the print reflects Eve Gravel's world while remaining faithful to the artist.
It's a long process, and here's an overview of the steps.
-
Local Artist Search: We focus primarily on Montreal, but extend our search to all of Canada. We love highlighting local artists.
-
The first meeting: A moment of exchange to discover our two worlds. We discuss our color palette, the direction of the upcoming collection, and the artist's works that particularly appeal to us. We generally select more prints than those retained at the end, i.e., 5 or 6 options.
-
The first tests: The artist presents us with several proposals using various tools (watercolor, pencils, stencils, handmade blends, and digital). This first exchange gives us a general idea of the direction, but many adjustments follow. We need to refine the colors (find the right pantones), rework the shapes, and adjust the size of the print. The artist's patience is crucial at this stage ;)
-
Repeats: We transform designs into repeating patterns. Adjustments are made to the print size, sometimes larger, sometimes smaller.
-
Fabric Selection: The team (production manager, designer, pattern maker, and seamstress) agrees on the most suitable fabric for each print. The production manager then takes care of ordering the fabric, having it printed, and handling any potential setbacks.
-
Sample receipt: A few weeks later, the final fabric sample arrives. Sometimes colors need adjusting, as the physical print may differ from the digital image. We then return to the Pantone charts to adjust the shades.
-
Final Approval: Once approved, there is no room for further changes. The approved fabric will be the one used during the photoshoot. The fabric composition may be modified for production.
